Volunteers

Many researchers in the School of Engineering welcome volunteer students in their labs. This is a great opportunity for students to get involved with research, enhance their undergraduate experience and add valuable experience to their resume. UBC has the obligation to provide a safe working environment for all volunteers.

Working in a research lab is not without risk and it is important for the volunteers to understand the hazards of the lab and complete all required training. Volunteers are trained in the same manner as staff and graduate students. Volunteers are required to complete volunteer paperwork prior to volunteering in a lab. Optional insurance coverage is available for purchase. If independent access to the lab is required or if the volunteer will not be directly supervised at all times, the lab access form must also be completed.

The School of Engineering uses Qualtrics to manage volunteer placements. Please access Quatrics, complete the application, and upload the supporting documentation.
